Biodiversity is the shortened form of two words: "Biological" and "Diversity". It refers to all the variety of life that can be found on Earth (plants, animals, fungi and micro-organisms) as well as to the communities that they form and the habitat in which they live.
BioMeBioYou uncovers, explores, questions, and celebrates all aspects of Biodiversity from the perspective of students of all abilities from every strata of society, and their whole school communities. Moreover, it challenges us to look beyond biodiversity in its traditional meaning, towards a more inter-connected and creatively holistic, 21 Century definition.
Simply put, biodiversity cannot exist in isolation if we are to consider that everything we are and everything we do is inextricably entwined in the fabric of planet Earth.
Furthermore, Biodiversity and Sustainability Citizenship are inseparable, as they involve understanding diverse world views and perspectives to effectively address the various political, environmental, social, and economic issues central to living sustainably in today's interconnected and interdependent world.
The health of you, me and our planet depends on how well we take care of ALL the different places where animals, plants, bacteria, fungi and humans live. The key to a balanced world is called Sustainable Biodiversity and you find this in four different elements on Earth:
We, human beings, are the answer and the solution as we are also the problem makers. The Earth itself did not decide one day, to create Climate Change...did it? So, who actually DID discover Climate Change?
Wherever you are in the world, creating a garden or growing plants is possible, and we would love to see what you will design or have created! See our "Connect Globally" page for more info.
To be able to best shape our future, we need to learn how it all works and see what WE can do to make it better.
Everything we learn, unlearn & relearn now will enable us to lead a smarter more sustainable life.
