What is Education for Sustainable Development ?

"ESD empowers learners to take informed decisions and responsible actions for environmental integrity, economic viability and a just society, for present and future generations, while respecting cultural diversity. It is about lifelong learning, and is an integral part of quality education. ESD is holistic and transformational education which addresses learning content and outcomes, pedagogy and the learning environment. It achieves its purpose by transforming society",

And, let's start our very own ESD journey by creating a School Garden and Possibly, an IOTKG, AN INTERNET OF THINGS KITCHEN GARDEN

Let's connect with Mother Earth in a holistic, mindful, kindful, fun and meaningful way with plants and herbs.

And...

You see, Plants and Herbs are just like me and you. They all like different types or environments and "homes" in which to live, grow and flourish together and apart.

How about a link to a variety of Garden Lesson Plans, on Kids'gardening.org
that inspire students' natural curiosity and wonder with hands-on learning experiences and
inquiry-based exploration?

And By The Way, What Is A Herb And What Is A Plant?
Picture

Herbs and plants are both terms that refer to an organism that uses sunlight to produce sugars, oxygen and other nutritional substances. The term plant is a general word that is given to a member of the plant kingdom while the term herb actually refers to a plant that can be used by humans or animals for food or medicinal purposes. Plants are present in a variety of places and can thrive in a range of climatic conditions. Herbs on the other hand forma a type of plant that is most often used for its culinary, medicinal or fragrant properties. The HerbGarden.ie is a super place to discover Organic Herbs and everything you need to learn. Greensideup.ie create gardens to improve Physical and Mental Health.

There are about 391,000 species of vascular plants currently known to science, of which about 369,000 species (or 94 percent) are flowering plants, according to a report by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew,
in the United Kingdom.

Human uses of plants include both practical uses, such as for food, clothing, and medicine, and symbolic uses, such as art, mythology and literature. The reliable provision of food through agriculture is the basis of our energy needs. In some parts of the world, wood is the primary fuel used by people to cook their meals and heat their homes. Wood is a very clean and safe fuel. Unlike oil and nuclear fuel, wood presents no risk if it is accidentally released into the environment as it is not a fossil fuel like oil, coal and gas which negatively affect Climate Change globally.
There is so much to learn about plants, herbs and their functions, all over the world.
Here is one last link that will give you
lots to think about before you decide to hopefully join us at BioMeBioYou
for our Global Community Garden Project!

So how about that IOTKG?

AN INTERNET OF THINGS KITCHEN GARDEN

Picture
In association with our Australian colleagues at Realtime Learning, the IOTKG is a super, duper place to go and grow.

'Real Time Learning’s (RTL’s) purpose is to support schools in expanding their capacity to deliver stimulating, enriching, and future-focused STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning experiences'.  Click ----->>

IoTKG is a flexible, free, and open access programme that delivers STEM education and digital technologies education in an authentic learning context.
'The programme was born from the need to foster an attitude of evidence-based decision making in early education already and to teach the skills to act on this attitude. Far beyond just delivering STEM skills, the program aims to contribute to laying foundations for informed citizenship that works towards a sustainable future'.

                 To Think About and Consider

What beautiful, colourful, edible, delicious and/or fragrant plants and herbs grow where you live?
We would LOVE to know! Tell us about the environments in which they live. We can look at Biodiversity and discuss the little changes we can make together to Help our Earth.
Like we said on the very first page; Planet Earth is BioMe and BioYou and Everything we Are and Do!
We all possess the power to change things.

Ask your teacher to connect with us so that we may all share information and help to make planet Earth a safer and more sustainable place to live. Let's Create Special Gardens together.

Start your own garden project at school and share it with the world, here on our website with colourful images and videos or send us a link to your own website or blog.

Inform other students from around the globe of what grows in your school and discover what grows in other places and gardens and in different climates to yours maybe!
Picture

This is all very exciting and we can't wait to see what you bring to life from one tiny, tiny seed to a fully grown flower, plant, herb, vegetable, berry, fruit, garden or maybe even a tree.

Become a true Global Eco-Warrior!

Here are some garden ideas from a book I co-authored in 2001, on fragrant meadows, garden designs, holistic gardening, plants and remedies in Ireland and Scotland.
Click on the images to enlarge!
We bet you would love to know what the numbers on our garden designs stand for? Well, they are all different herbs and if you decide to contact us, we will happily share the information about our
Celtic Herb Gardens with you. We love herbs, don't you?

Taispeáin dúinn do ghairdín!
Cé na plandaí áille, ildaite, inite, blasta a fhásann ina bhfuil cónaí ort? Ba mhaith linn i ndáiríre a fháil amach! Le chéile is féidir linn bithéagsúlacht a phlé agus smaoineamh ar conas is féidir linn cabhrú leis an domhan mar aon le hathruithe beaga.
Iarr ar do mhúinteoir teagmháil a dhéanamh linn ionas go bhféadfaimis a fháil amach conas is féidir linn, le chéile, an domhan seo a dhéanamh níos sábháilte agus níos inbhuanaithe.

Zeig uns euer Garten!

Jakie piękne, kolorowe, jadalne i smaczne rośliny rosną w Twoim miejscu zamieszkania?

If your language is not above, please let us know.
We would love to include you.
